CBD and Anxiety

Posted on

Nonpsychoactive cannabidiol (CBD) is commonly used for helping with every day anxieties. While THC can make anxiety worse in some cases, CBD feels like being enveloped by a warm, calming blanket. The best part? There Is no known way to overdose on CBD and it does not impair cognitive function. Here are some everyday anxieties that CBD can soothe.

Coffee Jitters
There’s a reason why coffee entrepreneurs have started infusing their beans with CBD. The anxiolytic and anti-inflammatory properties of the cannabinoid put a halt to the uncomfortable jitters and anxiety that come with too much coffee. Both CBD and caffeine engage with adenosine receptors. Adenosine is a neurotransmitter that tells your body when to wake up and when to wind down. Caffeine can be anxiety-provoking because it blocks adenosine receptors, and prevents them from functioning. This means that other exciting, more stimulating neurotransmitters go unchecked, as calming adenosine is blocked. CBD has the opposite effect; it activates adenosine receptors calming down the excitatory brain chemicals.

Overthinking
Sometimes, it can be difficult to be present. Our thoughts are entertaining and it’s human nature to let our thoughts wander. Unfortunately, our bodies don’t have the capacity to recognize when a story is real versus all in our heads. This means that we have a physiological response to our worries, whether we like it or not.Obsessing over a worry or story causes both physical and mental stress. CBD can help with this. Like other anxiety medications, CBD has a strong calming effect. However, it isn’t overly sedative and does not come with a host of uncomfortable side effects. The herbal compound is also a strong antioxidant, protecting your body from the physical effects of stress.

Social Anxiety
Some people associate cannabis with increased social anxiety. While high doses of THC may be anxiety-provoking, CBD has the opposite effect. In a way, it’s like breathing in a breath of fresh air. If you are nervous about going out in public or meeting a group of new people, the cannabinoid helps calm overexcitement in the brain. It produces a mild, mellow sensation that allows conversations to flow easily without added nervousness.

Reaching a deadline or studying
Short on time? Nah. Don’t worry. You got this. Stressing about a tight deadline only harms your performance and makes things take longer. It’s best just to forget about the stresses, sit down, and get things done. When you need a little help relaxing in a difficult situation, CBD is there to lend a hand. Since it’s non-psychoactive, you won’t feel mentally bogged down or easily distracted. Rather, you’ll feel carefree yet focused enough to bang out some quality work.

Fear of Flying
A little CBD oil before a long flight can definitely take the edge off. It may also help you catch some shut-eye, though it isn’t as powerful as its psychoactive relative, THC. Put a few drops of CBD oil under your tongue before your flight.

Just remember that everything will work out and if that is one of the phrases that you just can't stand because yes, you know everything will work out but right now it seems like the world is ending, well take some CBD and let that help you relax and focus!
