CBD For Kids.
For some parents, CBD for kids becomes a last option only after other drugs have been tried. For many families, CBD is a miracle treatment that allows their children to live normal lives. Unfortunately, for many people the idea of treating kids with cannabis is still quite controversial, even though CBD is completely safe. By learning more about CBD and dispelling some of the harmful myths surrounding the compound, more children may be able to live happy and healthy lives by receiving high quality CBD products.
It started with Charlotte.
Much of the current popularity regarding CBD can actually be attributed to a five-year-old girl – Charlotte Figi. Charlotte was featured in the CNN documentary “Weed,” which chronicled her life battling a severe seizure disorder. Charlotte experienced her first seizure when she was only three months old, and from that point on, she would have seizures that could last for up to four hours. She was hospitalized frequently, and her parents were desperate to find something to treat – or at least control – her seizure disorder.
At 2.5 years old, Charlotte was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome, and her parents embarked on a journey with a variety of therapies. They tried benzodiazepines, which didn’t help but caused Charlotte to lose clear cognitive function, and they even tried alternative diet therapies. It wasn’t until they saw a news article from CNN that mentioned the use of medical marijuana to treat Dravet Syndrome that they decided to try it.
After a long and desperate search, Charlotte’s parents found two doctors who were willing to treat Charlotte with cannabis. They used cannabis oil that was made from the highest concentration of pure CBD, and the amount of THC it contained was almost non-existent. This meant that Charlotte could get all of the health benefits without the intoxicating effects.
Today, Charlotte is doing much better. Her seizures have been reduced to only 2-3 episodes per month, and they almost always occur while she is sleeping. Her physical development is improving, and not only can she walk like normal children, but she can also ride a bicycle. Her speech is developing and she is able to feed herself. These stunning results have shown promise not only to other parents of children with seizure disorders, but to patients living with a variety of medical conditions.
CBD Products – All the Benefits without the High
When some parents think about CBD for kids, they automatically balk at the idea because they assume their child would get high. That’s not the case with CBD, which is one of 85 compounds known as cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis plant. CBD is often overshadowed by THC, which is another compound found in the same plant. THC has psychotropic properties, and it is responsible for the “high” that marijuana users experience. This can include delusions and hallucinations in extreme doses, so it is understandable that parents might be concerned about giving their child cannabis. Unlike THC, CBD can't get you high. In fact, the CBD oil is most commonly extracted from hemp instead of marijuana, as hemp tends to be naturally high occurring in CBD and low in THC.
